Works as advertised but has quirks

Review by Steve R on 12/3/2019

Quite happy after one batch: Get the pressure kit. Move beer from Fermzilla to keg using a hose with beer connectors on both ends, pressurizing Fermzilla a bit. (You have to vent the keg.) I got all the beer with almost no sediment. Unstrained pellet hops settled out in the collection jar, which was easy to clean and replace. To harvest yeast you might want to remove hops, which requires a small strainer or a funnel. The Williams funnel E37 could work but its strainer clogs too quickly. My pressure kit came with metal fittings that accept beer- and gas-side connectors, though Williams tells me the manufacturer is switching to plastic fittings. I had to use a wrench to tighten these enough, even though the instructions say to finger-tighten. Instructions are not well organized or written. Example: the fermenter includes a handy sticker with volumetric marks (3, 4, 5 gals, etc.), but it's not clear whether these volumes are with or without the collection jar. (They are without.)

Best fermenter outside of SS???

Best fermenter outside of bank busting stainless steel options? Eeeeeyup! it checks every box and does so without emptying your bank account. Conical design. Check. Large trub collection jar. Check. Large butterfly valve opening (=no clogging. see fastferment). Check. Enough headroom for foamy 5 gallon ales (=no blow off tube. see catalyst). Check. Ferment under pressure. Check. Transfer to keg in closed loop. Check. The only downside is... you're going to want to buy another one? But at this price point maybe that's not so bad? --Full disclosure i had an issue with my lid losing pressure, but, Williams got it taken care of immediately on first contact, no hoops to jump through. Amazing product. Stellar seller. Absolutely recommend.

Fermzilla 27 Lit

This is the 2nd won I bought, and as I have said these are a game changer! I'm pressure fermenting a Citronic Tangerine IPA and we will see, I did a West coast IPA, but I still lost my aroma hop aroma and flavor? But this is the 1st batch under pressure? This batch I put whole hops home grown 2.40 oz. Columbus and Mandarina Bavaria 1 oz. pellets for dry hop, I tried to inject them through the collection jar primed w/ co2, but they kind of got stuck in butterfly port, anyway some got through, we will see? These are nice though,Dr. Hans puts them through the lid?
