A reflex still is best when you want to make clear spirits like Vodka and Gin, as it stips all the impurities (and flavor) out of the distillate.
The Digiboil boiler features precise digital temperature control, so you can set your target boiling temperature to whatever you prefer, which helps prevent a too rapid rise in temperature and the resultant off flavors in the distillate. For example, set it to 200° F at the start of your run, and later on when you are near the end, raise it to 210° F. This keeps the boil rising gradually (remember, alcohol starts boiling at 173° F) and contributes to a smoother spirit and higher yield.
To monitor your run, the solid stainless KegLand Distilling Parrot is included with an Alcometer Hydrometer that floats as the run progresses, giving you a real time alcohol strength reading from start to finish.This is vital as you need to know when to stop your run,typically when the distillate drops to 35% to 40% alcohol.
You will need to run cold water through the reflex condensing column while your 45 minute to one hour run is in progress. Our Cooling Connection kit with 20' of hose and quick disconnect hose fittings is included for this, and has a female garden hose thread inlet so you can get cooling water from any garden hose style faucet.

Q: What size pump work Accommodate the reflux distiller, instead of water hose?
A: Possibly the 25 watt KegLand Mark II item Q85, although the pressure is lower than house water pressure, so you will need to keep the incoming recirculating water temperature at 55 degrees F or lower for this to work, as their is less water being forced through the cooling coils. This is hard to do as you will need a lot of cold refrigerated water on hand.

Q: In the description you mentioned gin, and I have seen a gin basket that says it fits on digi boil systems. However I can't quite seem to see how it connects on and no site has pictures. has anyone successfully attached agent basket to the column still?
A: Item C13 is the item you need. This all stainless Botanical Basket replaces the securing nut on the Still Spirits T500 Reflex Stills and the Still Spirits Condenser so you can infuse clear alcohol with things like juniper berries to make gin. Fits our items C05, C10, and P34. Does not fit Kegland brand distilling columns.

Q: What size is are the cooling water fittings? Thinking of putting a garden hose adapter instead of the tubing nipples,
A: 1/2" interior diameter tubing is used for the cooling hose to and from the still head.

To make it work
Great little boiler. Works good but it takes a while to complete a full 7 gallon batch. Be sure to give it as much COLD water as possible. I replaced the small fittings supplied with a full open one from a icemaker supply kit I had on hand to speed it up a little.The proof was still very high 180 average . Have used it to heat water to a certain Temp. also with no issues . Buy one it is worth the money and then some .
